Angelina Jolie Meeting With David O. Russell For The Silver Linings Playbook?

Gossip site Just Jared has learned from an unnamed source that Angelina Jolie is scheduled to meet with Russell about a role in The Silver Linings Playbook. Already starring Mark Wahlberg, the film is an adaptation of the Matthew Quick novel about a former high school teacher who is released from a mental institution after four years and goes back to live with his mother. Believing that he’s only been away for a few months, he tries to reconcile his relationship with his ex-wife. The role Jolie would be playing isn’t specified, but one can presume that she would be playing the ex-wife.

While the Jolie side of the story is purely speculative, this project seems much better suited for Russell than Uncharted. The tone seems to match the director’s sensibilities seen in movies like Flirting With Disaster and I Heart Huckabees. Then again I would just be happy with anything as long as it’s not an unnecessary sequel to The Fighter.

According Contactmusic – Tim Burton has dropped out of directing Angelina Jolie as the evil Maleficent in a “Sleeping Beauty” movie.

Jolie was eager to play the fairytale villain after learning Burton was on board to helm the project, saying, “Tim Burton, the chance to work with him would be extraordinary.”

But the film is now without a boss after Burton decided to focus on his pet project Frankenweenie for the studio instead, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The publication reports David Yates, who has directed the last four Harry Potter films, is in the running to take over.

Jolie Film Producers Fight To Win Back Permit

Producers working on ANGELINA JOLIE‘s directorial debut have submitted the script of the wartime love story to Bosnian officials in a bid to win back permission to shoot in the country.

Jolie recently began filming the as-yet-untitled drama in Hungary and had planned to shoot scenes in Sarajevo and Zenica in Bosnia, where the story is set.

But the Hollywood star’s plans were thrown into jeopardy earlier this week (begs11Oct10) when Bosnian government representatives revoked the actress’ production permit following a mix-up over the movie’s plot.

Trade publication Variety initially reported the film would tell the story of a Serbian man and Bosnian woman who fall in love in the middle of the Bosnian war, but are driven to take different paths.

However, local press claimed the film was a love story between a Muslim victim and her Serbian rapist, provoking uproar from Bosnian campaigners for women’s rights groups.

Gavrilo Grahovac, the Culture Minister of the Muslim-Croat federation – one of the two political entities in post-war Bosnia – confirmed on Wednesday (13Oct10) Jolie’s film licence had been revoked.

He added the ban was the government officials’ way to “express our disapproval for the shooting of a movie which does not tell the truth and hurts a large number of victims”.

But producers at Scout Film in Sarajevo, who are working with Jolie on the project, insist the local news outlets have got the storyline all wrong – and they handed over a copy of the screenplay on Thursday (14Oct10) to challenge the government’s decision.

Edin Sarkic, a representative for Scout Film, says, “I brought them the script and I am waiting for a positive response as soon as possible, I hope even today.”

Production on ANGELINA JOLIE‘s directorial debut has been thrown into jeopardy after Bosnian officials revoked permission for the actress to shoot the wartime love story in the country.

Jolie has already started shooting the as-yet untitled drama in Hungary and planned to film scenes in Bosnian cities Sarajevo and Zenica, starring little-known local actress Zana Marjanovic.

But authorities have banned production from moving to the country amid outrage from women’s wartime victims’ groups, stemming from confusion over the plot.

However, Bosnian press reported the movie would be a love story between a Muslim victim and her rapist, a Serb.

A spokesperson for the Association of Women Victims of War in Sarajevo tells the Associated Foreign Press, “This is misleading history. Among thousands of testimonies by women raped during the war, there is not a single one that tells of a love story between a victim and her rapist. We will not allow anyone to falsify our pain.”

International organisations have estimated that thousands of women were raped during the Bosnian war.

Angelina Jolie Is Set to Be ‘Unforgiven’

Angelina Jolie is close to land another job after wrapping up production for “The Tourist”. The actress is said offered a lead role in “Unforgiven” which is based on 2009 British miniseries of the same title, but she reportedly won’t commit to the project until the screenplay is completed.

Deadline Hollywood reports that Christopher McQuarrie is currently writing the script for the movie and GK Films, which recently financed “The Tourist” where Jolie stars alongside Johnny Depp, is the one developing “Unforgiven” film. Graham King, meanwhile, is on board to serve as producer of the drama thriller.

According to Deadline, “Unforgiven” miniseries is a story about a woman named Ruth who attempts to “rejoin society after she serves a fifteen-year prison stretch for the murder of two policemen. The tragedy happened after the policemen came to evict her family from their farmhouse. Her hope is to live quietly and reunite with her troubled younger sister, but the paroled woman is targeted for a revenge campaign by two sons of one of her victims.” Suranne Jones starred as Ruth in the original show, which was written by Sally Wainwright and directed by David Evans.

Angelina Jolie has recently announced that she is working on a Bosnian War love story which will start shooting in this fall. It is rumored that she will serve behind the lens though some people suggest that she will also star in the movie. This untitled Angelina Jolie project is going “to involve as many local people as possible,” the 35-year-old promised.

Jolie To Direct War Film In Hungary?

ANGELINA JOLIE, BRAD PITT and their six kids are reportedly househunting in Budapest, Hungary so the actress can make her directorial debut with a film about the war in Yugoslavia at the beginning of the 1990s.

Jolie spent the weekend (21-22Aug10) scouting for locations in the city with the couple’s two-year-old twins, Knox and Vivienne, according to X17Online.com, and filming on the top secret project will begin in November (10) if plans go her way.

The hard hitting film reportedly focuses on a horrific sex crime amid the conflict when a Serbian soldier raped a Bosnian woman.

The website reports Jolie was inspired to shoot the story after visiting refugee camps in Bosnia earlier this year (10).

Parts of the hard-hitting movie will also be shot in Belgrade, Serbia.

Jolie to Film Love Story Set in Bosnia War

Hollywood star Angelina Jolie said after a visit to Sarajevo Saturday she would soon start work on a love story set during the 1992-95 Bosnian War.

Jolie said in a statement issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), for whom she is a Goodwill Ambassador, that shooting for the movie would begin in autumn on the tale of a couple who meet on the eve of the war and the effect it has on their relationship.

“The film is a love story, not a political statement,” the statement said.

Jolie arrived Friday for a surprise visit to Sarajevo and Saturday met members of Bosnia’s inter-ethnic presidency to discuss ways to help thousands of returning war refugees.

Jolie visited returnees in eastern Bosnia in April with her partner Brad Pitt and promised then to come back.

She also said the movie’s cast would be comprised of actors from the various ethnicities of the former Yugoslavia.

“I would like to involve as many local people as possible and learn as much as I can,” Jolie said.
